This is another track that has Jimmy Plates’s name stamped all over it. The bare bones of this track were conceived about eight years ago while on a trip to London. My studio in Cornwall had been boxed up for a number of years, so I had no beatmaking access. I went over to Jimmy’s for the day and it wasn’t long before the MPC was booted up and we were riffling through the racks. First up, as with most tracks, we hooked up some drums. As you can hear, they have a very live crashy chopped drum loop running underneath. This was programmed using a couple of tiny little snatches nestled within one of those epic Buddy Rich-style seven-minute jazz drum solos. 

Once the drums were coming correct, we stuck some chunky drum layers on top and proceeded to search for some musical accompaniment. This came in the form of an epic, gut wrenchingly deep introduction from an intriguing UK LP. The sample kept on giving up the goods, and as with so many samples I use, I took it all. 

Although the bare bones of this track were laid at Jimmy’s flat around 2011, I finally came back to the beat just over a year ago to finish it off. With the awesome power of the virtual instrument at my disposal, I layered the music up with lots of additional textures, applying a healthy dosage of wha wha for good measure.
