This track actually started life as a remix to a Jennifer Hudson track. Not an official commission, alas, but one of those online remix competitions. The prize was a pretty hefty – £10k and a trip to the States – hence my entry attempt. Suffice to say I didn’t win. Rather than waste the track, I came back to it for this album, as I had composed the music from scratch without using any samples. I’ve always viewed this beat as slightly different to the others on the album, as it was written to a vocal, but I guess I’m the only one who has this perspective. Besides, I think this track shows a slightly more smoothed out melodic side to me. 

I was pretty happy with the way the string arrangement came out. As I said earlier, I have very little in the way of keyboard skills or music theory knowledge. I tend to play things in very slowly, one bar at a time, but I do have a pretty good ear, so can hear when things aren’t right. Basically I just have to keep persevering until my ears no longer detect any duffness.
